I was exiting the gantry at an industrial area and the barrier came down on my bike, "clipped" my box and the barrier got dented. The company security manager claimed to replace the barrier it would cost $4000+. Those with experience can provide insight on the price? I feel 4k is cutthroat BS. When i inspected the barrier it was still working. 4 other vehicles went through and the swing arm performed as normal except being dented. Please help, do not want to be carrot chopped. 13239118_10153490447986954_7999243375941099125_n.jpg13330918_10153490447941954_3773703725935456703_n.jpg

The barrier should not hit you in the first place. The sensors should be able to sense that your bike is not cleared from it. Ask the manager to compensate your box instead. Poor maintenance from his side. What if the barrier hit someone next time?

There should be a security camera. Review it to see who is at fault.

It depends. If the barrier has raised for your vehicle, it should stay raised till your vehicle has passed it. If the barrier then drops before you can proceed or cleared the barrier, then yes, the sensor would be faulty.

However, if the barrier was raised for the vehicle in front. That vehicle cleared it. The barrier will drop. If you happen to be too close behind it and the entry reader does not detect your IU, it will drop regardless of whether it detects another vehicle approaching, because it does not read a "valid entry" request from the approaching vehicle.

If what you say is true, then any vehicle can tailgate, as long as the barrier hasn't fully closed, you reach it, it should stop dropping. Like that, easy to cheat the system. Endless chain of vehicles, no need to insert cashcard, can just follow one another out.

Yes, tailgating can and will happen, but if you F-up, then you get hit by the barrier.

Now, I'm not saying that the OP was trying to cheat the system. It's just unlucky that the reader didn't detect his vehicle cuz it was not positioned ideally. Barrier came down when he thought it might have detected him.

To avoid such instances, keep a good distance behind the front vehicle. Wait for barrier to drop or begin dropping, then move forwards till you see the barrier raise.

Smile! Tomorrow will be worse.

strange.

if you are exiting the carpark properly, with the gantry having read your IU and raised to allow your exit, if the gantry comes down on you it is the management that should compensate you, not the other way around. if this was indeed wat happened, I would tell the management to FO, they can make police report or bring to court, neither is going to hold you responsible for the damage.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

Ask other gantry operators about their quotation on this, you're not the first one.

A gantry hit my car... both my car and the gantry had a dent. Carpark operator gave me the address of the workshop to repair my car at their cost.

Don't understand why TS feels the need to pay for the barrier unless unauthorised entry/exit.

If I read correctly between the lines, it is likely TS was one of those who want to sneak thru, when the barrier was raised for another vehicle or was in process of sneaking thru when he got hit. That is why he started with the topic of wanting to know how much was he to pay for the barrier.

If the barrier was raised for him to pass thru and fell onto him or his bike, then it should be the rider sending a LAWYER DEMAND letter for damages for the car park gantry operator for cost of damages! lol

Most riders ( I said most hor not ALL) are cheap skates anyway, that was how I deduced what TS was harping about.

Thank u all for your helpful replies and interesting theories.

A police report has been made. Report at IDAC has also been made.

To provide more details:

1) Front vehicle went through

2) barrier was going down

3) my IU detected, grace period

4) I proceeded through

5) it came down on me

I've never gotten into any accident before so I am totally clueless what is legal proceedings or what to do so I asked every angle. (Kan chiong)

Plan for the worse, hope for the best :)
