The last time a visited Chiap Lee on Serangoon Rd was a few good months ago. There are quite a few helmets on display: Schubert, Arai, some 'fancy' lids (I guess those are popular among the scooters' crowd), some dirt-bike types and ubiquitous MHR...

The choice of colours is understandably more on a conservative side, so I am not entirely sure about easy availability of Nakano, Edwards, Hayden and alike..

You can buy top shelf leathers from Chiap Lee, including gloves, but be ready to pay а top dollar for the quality and wait should you desire something which is not in stock...

Boots wise: you will find a decent selection of TCX (formerly OXTAR) there - yes, Chiap Lee is a TCX dealer in Singapore too.. :)

Chiap Lee does not carry SIDI, but the shop which is almost opposite (slightly down the road towards the Indian temple), with a SHOEI logo does. In fact that shop also has a selection of helmets, so is worth exploring..

Otherwise, go to Regina - another decent shop within a walking distance (10-15 min. walk) from those I mentioned above. A good selection of helmets, boots and other things..

Smaller shops may cut a good deal for you too, so do your research properly... Remember though, the helmets you buy in Singapore may not be 'recognised' in your country..

Also, please define what 'priced good' means to you, although it probably is irrelevant in today's world.

Good luck.

thanks quickshift, a friend of mine told me that it's cheaper to buy there than here in our country coz he often go to chong aik whenever he goes there, but i think CA doesn't carry arai brand( or do they?) btw where is regina located? is it near chiap lee? not too familiar w/ singpre that much , been there only once, this will be my 2nd. tia

No probs, mate...

Regina is located at 152 Jalan Besar... Chiap Lee (#2 shop) is just a little further down Jalan Besar. To give you some more pointers, everything is quite near Sim Lim Tower/Sim Lim Square. A short walk, like I said 10-15 minutes, through the little streets of Little India towards Mustafa Shopping Centre will get you to Serangoon Rd, carry on towards Lavender St and keep your eyes open: Chiap Lee (#1 shop) and a few others are right there.. If you continue to Lavender St and turn right, there will be another good shop called Motoworld - Hodaka. It is only a boutique there, but they have a main shop too.. just ask.

Perhaps you should schedule your shopping expedition for the afternoon, as most of the shops would open no earlier than 11am and close at about 7pm or even later...

The only downside of the afternoon shopping is the crowds generally increase, it might rain and/or in July your butt will be charcoal grilled under the sun when you try to get through the rush hour traffic... :D

Enjoy anyway.

haiyah people want to MO the dealer never reply my email how to MO? o_O

I guess the dealer will entertain your request providing the following conditions are met:

1. you go to a shop in person and discuss your order personally;

2. you pay a deposit upfront.

It is only a fair play from the dealer's point of view.

Put it this way:

You receive an e-mail out of the blue asking you to order a number of expensive helmets.

Would you, honestly, think the email is genuine, the sender is not a time-waster and will pay promptly and in full on delivery?

Do you have that 'free' cash that you, in turn would have to pay to the manufacturer also in advance, roughly SGD6000 or whatever the cost (based on 10 pieces)?

Your deposit will surely be much higher than the price of a single helmet, and add to it the hassle of logistics.

Just go and buy your helmet off the shelf, my friend..

anyone here change the bottom lining of a arai helmet at C***Lee before? (see attached)

changing the sides and top lining is easy but not for bottom lining, however was told that it can be done, so I'm wondering if anyone here changed their helmet bottom lining before? can give some feedback? thank you.

Hmm... C***Lee... who's that?..

I buy my helmets at CHIAP LEE.. and this is where you should be buying yours too.. ;)

I personally have never disassembled Arai lids that far, but my guess is that those parts are not removable.. At least on AGV they are glued to the shell.

The best person to answer your question will be the guy who fronts the shop or try Arai website - I think they have some photographic helmet maintenance how-to.

Good luck.

anyone here owns a Corsair V? i went to chiap lee today. asked about the difference between RX7 and Corsair V, and was told that they are the same; named differently between regions. went home, did some digging and found that Corsair V is actually the replacement for RX7. they may look similar but it is an upgraded version. they dont have it in stock. so i am wondering if the price they quoted me is for RX7 or Corsair V since they claimed it is the same cos the price the quoted is alot cheaper than on arai or amazon or ebay websites. anyone can confirm that they are actually different?

oh yea the Profile full face is much cheaper at chiap lee then on arai and amazon websites. no stock thou.

Arai Corsair V in US/Canada is the same as the Arai RX-7 GP in Europe.

Similarly, my european Arai Viper GT is marketed as the Arai Profile in North America.

Chiap Lee fella knows what he is talking about and I have known him for quite a few years now.

As a side note, if you even consider buying a helmet on eBay, then you are probably going to waste your money anyway. There are plenty of shops in Singapore - buy whatever suits your taste, is readily available and without blowing your budget.

hey thanks for your confirmation, quickshift. i went to check arai europe and indeed it is the it is the same.

funny on arai website it says that it isnt the same http://www.araiamericas.com/default.aspx?pageid=265

The Corsair-V that will carry the new Aoyama replica is Arai’s newest top-of-the line helmet, introduced just this year. Replacing the much-lauded RX-7 Corsair, Arai says the new model has so many innovations, patents and advancements over its predecessor that “they’re really not close in anything but the ‘Corsair’ name,” said Brian Weston, Arai Americas’ Director of Operations.
but then again it is regional naming huh? like what chiap lee said.

remembered i said earlier that i asked chiap lee what is the difference between corsair V and RX-7? i didnt mention RX-7 Cosair or RX-7 GP to him, i just said RX-7(cos i didnt know there were so many different version of RX-7 till now). and if there is a difference between RX-7 Cosair and RX-7 GP then probably chiap lee was refering to the "GP" one right?.

so confusing :? . but good that we cleared it. maybe others may have the same doubt.

oh and yes i was considering to get it online if it is cheaper. but since it isnt any cheaper, obviously i will get mine from chiap lee. :thumb:

heh.. no worries mate... It is obviously possible to buy helmets from the alternative suppliers and possibly cheaper.

You may want to check out a little shop in Jurong: Block 541, #01-1044, Jurong West Avenue 1, Singapore 640541. Contact: Choy Wai Leong, Tel. +65 96948025. They are right next to KNOX protection equipment shop.

I have no idea where they get their stocks from though..

That said, SHOEI dealer is almost right opposite Chiap Lee (X-12 (in US) / X-Spirit II (in Europe) is also awesome it seems), Regina is the place to get AGV helmets.. Further into Little India, behind Mustafa, there is a shop that sells SUOMY helmets... So the choices are there.. :)

Good luck mate. :thumb:
