[Review] Straight Through TA 200 Exhaust(WARNING!! DO @ OWN RISK!)

Hey all Phantom knights:P, i got my TA 200 exhaust straight through at Ah Gua lane.

Here's some review of it. When you start the bike, the idiling sound is very bassy. the sound quite nice and sexy. After 5mins when my bike is warmed up, the bassy sound get deeper.

when moving off in small road, the sound is still okay.but when i enter expressway and gain speed, the very very loud sound kick in. It's seriously damn loud. when my bike travels more than 100km/h on my meter, it's like the center of attraction on the road. if TP or any LTA officers on the road, confirm they will ask you pull over the bike.

A straight through pipe don't have any pick up power. it's totally useless. got to trottle alot then can feel the power coming in. but however. the power is there at the top end. i tried my top end at a long and deserted road near my girlfriend at woodlands during a night at 1.30am. the power of the bike is really very powerful at 4th gear and above. the power really could be felt compared to before i straight through my pipe. but the sound is deafening. :thumb:

Anyway, i've replace back a stock pipe bought from a scrap yard. And now the Straight Through pipe is display at my house musuem and the title of this art piece is name,

''A Lesson Learnt''. Haha. the pipe is too loud to be use on the road. very easy attract TP. So i think use back stock pipe is a better option.

wah you alot of money to spend hor, straight through pipe then can still get spare one.

what about welding one of the holes shut? you know our exhaust got 2 holes right, like the daelim daystar.

February 2011 - March 2012 = Phantom TA 200

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

Haha, i Straight through the pipe for 80RM at Hou Heng. then i bought the second hand stock pipe for $30 from a scrap yard. So in total never Lugi much. Is an experience afterall or shall i say, A lesson Learnt!

Bro, You mean the 2 holes, shut one of it to reduce the level of the sound? i Never thought of it lei.

Can also accelerate the exhaust gas velocity by use of heat wrap. Actually mine is better, thermal wise, than heat wrap.

DIY $2 version - wrap the header in aluminium foil. The hotter the exhaust gases, the faster the flow - makes the engine run cooler.

Effect is quieter engine at low RPM but once you open throttle it's very loud and very nice acceleration all the way up to 110kph. From the rider's point of view the sound is not unlike a Civic Type R. So loud, I got half deaf before I got smart and wore FF helmet. Throttle response also faster; works very well with low-resistance kopitiam engineered airbox :3

I cruise on the highways at 90-100 at only like, 1/4 throttle. Uphill no need to open throttle, cos mine has lots of torque.

Inspection? Just passed, no problems.

The DIY aluminum wrap is now almost 1 year old and while the foil looks like crap, the heat reflective properties is still effective. Performance wise, I'm having fun eating 2B 2 strokes for lunch and dinner, and chasing friends' S4s. :p

Surprisingly, fuel economy remains at 40-43 km/l at 100kph.

Later too much backpressure. It's like running mod airbox and no exhaust improvements. Can feel/hear the exhaust end reducing performance. TA200 become TA125. lol.

come and see /hear my bike with exhaust wrap...

when to do it?...

when you want to increase low end torque..leading to increase horse power.

when u want bassy exhaust..louder too.

when your exhaust pipe look like a piece of rotted pipe..wrap instead of replacing new pipe..save a bundle too.

straight thru surely will lose out damn badly on pickup but top end . No back pressure. It'll be one hell of an irritating ride to hear or even be on

Dear Bros,

I just finish wrapping my pipe bout 1.5 hours ago.tmr morning will fasten the aluminium foil with copper wire as it come loose quite easily.

Just to share some useful tips n info:

1. After googling n read this post, alum foil is still the best option cos is cheaper and not so corrosive. If ur bike caught in rain, fibreglass wrap will be soak with water, if u dun remove to dry accordingly,it will cause corrosion to ur pipe. Damage to the pipe is more costly.

2. Buy 1 roll of Diamond heavy duty alum foil 37.5ft (more than enough to wrap with 10 layer).

3. You may wish to remove ur pipe to wrap so is more easier. (cos i have a wide crash bar, hinder my movement)

3. Use hand glove when wrapping the pipe (too much friction will cause blister on ur palm)

4. Fasten with wire as the foil come losse quite easily.

The engine response n "louder" noise comes in after "certain" temperature (no exact measurement). The pick up from 70-100 is faster n more powerful. After travelling for some distance, the noise when idling is even nicer n solid.

I'll try to take some pictures n post here so can let other pk bros use for reference n also get comment from those who had already wrap their pipe.

Pls advise if this forum support iphone uploading of photo. I hardly on my laptop lately.

no need to use copper wire la bro.

get those hose clamps. 50mm ones fits fine.

for me i feel no difference in power when put alu foil, just that sound is much deeper. which i like! cheap also. been on it for 6 months.
