Hi guys, I just got my 2B license last week :)

Was scouting around here and other online websites and I saw a very good deal for an Aprilia RS 125 which I could not take my eyes off it...

Is it recommendable for me to get a RS 125 for a starter bike as I'm searching for looks more rather than transport ?

Would the cost of maintaining a RS 125 be very high throughout the months/years as I am still a student and I there's a limit on my fund spending..

What are the main things that would need to be maintained on an Aprilia too?

Thanks guys!!

If you're still schooling, you should forget about 2 strokes, especially a continental one unless your parents give you lots of money or you work while schooling. No point owning a good looking bike if all day it sits in the carpark.

2T is one thing, fuel consumption is another. Haven't got to spares yet.

as ur 1st bike, i would'nt recommend e rs125... take it from me as my 1st bike was n still is a rs... there's a particular way of riding it tt u'll have to get use to. maintenance is expensive, fuel consumption is acceptable if its well tuned (mine last me 6 days n i use it as a transport bike)

on e whole, there's alot to learn abt e bike to keep it in a nice running condition. if u r prepared to go thru tt dan u'll b rewarded wif a nice 2b bike, wif 2a performance which shld last u all e way till ur class 2 =)

the one and only...

rs125 is a great toy to have fun on.

but for transport there are a lot of bikes which are more suitable.

i think on the rs125 the powervalve need regular maintanence. if it same design like the mito n tzm, it would be easy to do it on ur own.

the honda and kawasaki's design are different and don't need such regular maintanence

If you have a tight budget.. Don't bother..

The maintenance of the bike is ok.. but.. when you failed to take care of it due to lack of money.. More problems arises.

The spare parts of a RS can be pretty ex..

I used to ride a 06' RS.. I self skidded and broke a LED Signal. It costed me $66 w/o GST and this price was 2 years plus back.. Of course you can go replace it with some cheapo led signals.. then again.. it will not be the same RS anymore.. :)

i would prefer it if u take an aprilla 250 or a nsr 250 .. if 2 stroke is what u wan .

besides , to pay for a rs125 even for second hand should cost around 7k ?

u use the money to buy the bikes i mention ,with full repairs , i believe u can enjoy it and chase class 2a bikes on track

I've both the RS125 and RS250. The RS125 is fine as a transport bike. It's reliable as long as you maintain it well. But the lifespan of components are rather short as compared to the SP and KR. Spares can be gotten online from PJME much, much, much cheaper than if you get it from Mah Motor. Buy everything online from PJME if possible to avoid getting ripped off. It still is a lot cheaper even after adding the cost of shipping. Fuel consumption isn't that bad either, as long as you don't redline the bike everytime you accelerate. I'm getting 25~28KM/L from mine if I rev hard up to around 7K RPM in each gear. Goes down to 21KM/L if I ride around like a lunatic with my pants on fire.

The RS250 on the other hand wouldn't work as a transport bike. It goes through petrol faster than a burning oil rig. Spares are close to impossible to find or get. And they'll cost you more than both arms and legs.

i've already got a 250 but still likes to have a 2b sportsbike again too.

reason:250 is too fast for sg roads n highways..

Just saw this. The powervalve self-cleans at low RPMs unless the RAVE unit is spoilt, solenoid is spoilt, cable is stuck or the powervalve itself has already jammed. If you redline the engine once every couple of days, it shouldn't have any problem as the carbon will be scraped off when it slides open.

250s are not meant to be transport bike at all . its more like a leisure

i mean chase other brands of 2A bikes..

i did get the temptation to purchase a 250 but the spare parts is more of a headache..

oh well......

dont bother buying one 1st hand, the depreciation in the first year alone will kill its value.... some more its your first bike, so as a new rider there is a greater tendency for you to drop your bike due to inexperience.... drops and skids will hurt your wallet a lot more if you own a rs125.... whats more if you take out a long loan, you might get stuck with the bike long after you have outgrown its performance....

im guessing you plan to get your class 2A and 2 eventually? i would suggest saving the money on a rs125 and putting your $$ into either a class 2A or class 2 bike, and in the mean time ride a more affordable 2b bike....

ride what you can afford, remember: long loans = more interest payment = bigger hole in you pocket....

just my 2 cents....

Cheap + fast = no good

Cheap + good = not fast

Good + fast = not cheap

Totally agree..after riding a year or 2,u will have this feeling to upgrade to 2a/2..cause u will see a nicer bigger bike riding beside ..just my opinion, there's more better looking class2 bike than rs125 n nsr 250 cause u were saying u go for looks..better to save for a bigger machine..like rocklobster said, ride what u cn afford..
