I went to Regina last week to buy a black Shoei helmet, the price quoted was about $35 cheaper than Chong Aik. After 15 mins of waiting, that guy came back into a shop with a Shoei box. But it's a white one instead and he told me black no more stock, he to me to take it at a further discount of $25. I said no thanks and just walk across the road to another shop selling Shoei. Bought the helmet I want within 5 mins without hassle. I don't like to deal with any sales person that are too pushy, what is that discount amount when I'm going to buy a expensive helmet before I went down?

I went yesterday to Regina to get a black orange dual sport helmet. I started looking and was not given any display to try even though the sales guy kept recommending a white AGV one. I was thinking "heck, if you wanna convince me of a product, bring it out from the display case and impress me at least!". After 5 mins I went to the shop opposite. Saw a nice Shoei one but it was S$580. I did not buy, went to collect my bike parked at Regina and this guy with glasses showed me from a catalogue the same Shoei helmet at $480 to order. But still, I didn't get any as I did not want to wait 2 weeks for it.

But at $100 difference, I would have bought the helmet from Regina if they had stock. So....to each their own. Everything is about chance when it comes to shopping.

Actually... I am also another one that ban LAB and Regina... I always did my research before i go down... but from the way they conduct their business... if u dunno ur stuff, they will try to jack up the price to con noob... I think i belongs to the group that rather pay more for service than to listen to their crap... waste time only...

Regina/LAB is like Sim Lim Square. If you know exactly what you're getting and how much its supposed to cost, its worth going. Otherwise, go reputable outlets for peace of mind.

I once went there several years ago to get a pair of Michelin Pilot Power. One of the staff kept showing me the Michelin Power Race (predecessor to current Power One), with the tiny tread pattern and kept insisting he didnt know what 'Pilot Power' was and that there was no such tyre. Finally my friend and I said "Look uncle, if you dont have the Pilot Power, never mind we're going. We dont want any other tyre model." And we were serious coz we really only wanted those.

Magically, out comes a michelin catalogue, and right there was a picture of the latest (back then) Pilot Power. "Oh, this one ah? Now no stock, next week coming." So thats why he kept pushing us the Power Race....

Ok. so we went back the following week. and bought a pair each. and at that time, they were really selling them for the cheapest price anywhere.

And if they ask you whether you want 'original' or 'original-original', you better know exactly what you want. they're not cheating you; some people really want to buy "cheaper versions" of bike parts, and they're upfront about it. I bought a signal light cover which was identical to the original on my bike (right down to the embossed parts number) for $20 when honda distributor was selling for $60. signal light cover who cares, right? but you try a "cheaper version" of oil filter, like i said you better know what you're doing.

As for changing cushion of helmets, i must say this is standard practice. Generally helmets come with the same shell sizes while the cushions are what determine the size.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

Seriously, this sentence works. I've tried it personally. Was trying to buy a visor for my scratched ff4, and they kept pushing ff5 to me, regardless of what I said. I knew they had stock, as I went down a week before to check it out. When I had enough, I simply said: "If you don't have the visor, I'm not buying. Either you earn $ for the visor, or you lose your customer." Magically a visor appeared!

Word of advice, be firm but polite.

Arai RX-7 RR5 Helmet, Spyke mesh jacket & Alpinestars SMX-2 Air carbon gloves bought today. No issues with any of the items & helpful staff. You do have to wait while they track your size down for some items but thats not a problem for me

Too late to read this.. i just got cheated too... bought a pro 2 asked for an L size... tested and felt tight and shallow... so i asked for xl, and the salesman says he go in and check.. came out with an XL size.. foolish me.. didnt test it on the spot.. went home and realized that he peel off the L size sticker and replaced it with XL... and the whole sticker area was smeared with a bit of black grease...

always thought LAB was a trusty shop.. been buying all supplies from them ever since i got my licence in 2005..now they make me wonder if they are doing anything worse than this..

One incident happened in 2009, from that time onwards, I've not patronized lim ah boy... Bought a OGK FF4 fullfaced helmet from them at $180, wore it 4 times within the same month I bought it, the visor flew off when it was closed and I was checking blindspot going at 120km/h... Went back to the shop and asked them how much to fix a new visor, they told me $80... I was like wtf? I just bought it for less than a month and u don't have warranty for this kind of defects? He said, you never close visor and speed is it? Confirm la... I turned to my friend and said to him, nvm I not coming back this shop anymore and walked out... He chased after me and told me a cock and bull story about him being a Buddhist and like to do good deeds, then he told me he will fix it for me and how much I wanna pay them is up to me... He fixed it, I took the helmet an left without paying... Few months later, I accidentally dropped my helmet and the vents broke... Compared to my friend's original OGK FF4 which only had dents... After peeling the plastic vents off, I realized they were sticked into place by double sided tape... So they're fake for sure... that's the reason why I don't go there anymore... They sell fake stuff...

uh..TerryL all helmet manufacturers have different shell sizes and sponge sizes.

Better helmet co's have 3 shell sizes Small shell - xs, s head sponge. Medium shell - m,l head Large shell - xl,xxl head. even brands like agv have 3 if you didnt know. For example a agv L and XL can beusing the same shell, just that the L has thicker sponge.

Only specific few like shoei pride themselves in having 5 shells sizes for their better models. So don't expect every head size for every shell size on a $40 helmet.

Youre ignorance in this matter makes you look very bad.

I wont be surprised they go behind, change the sponge take out/change the helmet sticker, because its the same damn thing. but u cant expect them to go to every p-plater and explain to them helmet shell sizes with sponge sizes and their variables right? "ah boy ah actually ah helmet shell this model got 2, so helmets are actually measure with the sponge, now i put in the xxs sponge yadayadayada~" therefore...

I have bought my shoei x11, and current shoei z6 from them and even compared them to my buddies regina rf1100 and usa bought rf1100 with dot certification.

Where in the world u expect to find warranty for helmets? its a crash safety equipment.A helmets shelf life expectancy is avg 5yrs where the eps stays true, and even manufacturers claim you change once you drop it as the structural integrity is compromised.

Never had any complaints with LAB, be it a $10 LED relay to a $700 helmet they will help you, only problem is that the system theres similar to a fish market, gotta try and catch theyre attention on a busy day or you can get stuck there for a long time. And not all items are only display. I still find it amazing ahboy remembers almost any item if he has them in stock anot lol.

I mean at least i read up about helmets before buying them.

And XxPJYxX, OGKs problem is they use tape to stick their vents in the first place. even the ff5.

http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/motorcycle-helmet/ogk-ff-5/ read up even the reviewer said the chin vent was peeling.

'The chin vent is already beginning to peel off. There's actually about 1mm between the helmet shell and the vent in places. Not good.'

'The top vents and rear spoiler have become noticeably 'looser' since I first purchased the helmet. The previous poster mentioned that they are beginning to peel away. This seems almost inevitable on my helmet now too.'

Before coming to all these wierd ass conclusions sometimes its best to educate yourself.

Opposite LAB is another shop selling bike Accesories also. Price ok also.

Opposite ah boy that one is from further down the road. Now come beside LAB to fight close quarters, like how Cyberactive is often found beside Challenger IT stores. This shop I like. Harder to bargain, but goods are genuine and I have never been been dissapointed in quality.

P-plate should be an attitude to safety and riding. There's always more to learn.

True they use tape to secure the vents... Then please explain to me why my friend's original helmet vents are made of aluminum and they only get dented on impact compared to my helmet which was bought at lim ah boy the vents made of plastic an get cracked on impact? Don't tell me the OGK helmets have double standards some made of aluminum and some plastic?

My experience was... I bought the same product from LAB as well as Chiap Lee.

That product is an Arai Rain Gear (the thick type).

LAB: wear only about 5 times and it leaked like crazy.

Chiap Lee: wear countless times in 1+ year now. Still keeps me very dry after a heavy downpour.

But of course, price difference was quite significant.

LAB: I paid $50

Chiap Lee: I paid $78

Biking is something that everyone can learn and enjoy! :goodluck:

i cannot explain everything especially things i dont have a full interest in, but for example a shoei rf-1100 in states is different to a rf-1100 in japan because the helmet shape is different to pass DOT standards of the states, if you take both and compare you WILL see the rf-1100 from the states heavier, and slightly larger in shell sizing. I know lab's shoeis are from japan. I feel DOT certification abit nonsense as making a increased thickness of the shell doesnt neccesarily mean added protection. If it meets JIS(japan)+ECE(europe) standards thats good enough for me. once again im not an OGK fan i cannot explain that, but if a reputable uk review website says that the vents are made of plastic and peel off easily means for certain that model is plastic, actually why cant u read up and check it yourself? from http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/ogk/ff4/ - its plastic. so i wtf youre friend get metal vents from i dont know. maybe u can ask him yourself.

Seems that it's pretty common that when I ask them for a helmet, they will make me wait for quite some time and then product something that is totally not the one I've asked for.

Yet the most intrigue thing is how the staff like to then try to pull you back in by stuffing other product into your face.

Where the helmet are source from? Only God knows. But for sure I know that many of their helmet are actually not suited for the road.

So might as well try my luck with helmet boys, chong aik.. even the shop directly opposite regina to try my luck. Least I know the nolan I brought speaks Italia for sure.
