Panalty for riding without Insurance.

Hi guys i really need your help.

 

today, (17th Sept 2012) I was on the way to my bike mechanic to renew my insurance + road tax.

my insurance expired on 16th september 2012. I only managed to do it today as I was busy with my final year project

+ financial constriction. Anw, I was about 500m away from my mechanic when this joker tp stopped me.

so technically, i was caught for riding without an insurance + road tax. I apologised to him and told that I was on the way to get it done.

he said he understood but its the law etc and told me to wait for the letter.

 

May i know the outcome of this situation? I was barely a day late for renewal and I managed to get it renewed within 5-10mins after I was caught.

 

Is there any way to justify that it was an honest mistake?

 

I got class 2b,2a and 3... dont want to lose all

Well juz wait for the letter.

 

One thing for sure is the tp aint a joker. U are. I'm glad to know tp is doing thier job. As now i'm sure most theft cases will be lower down.

 

Outcome is actually base on your luck.

Driving around without insurance is a serious offence in the eyes of the law. The penalty is a fine of up to $1,000 or imprisonment of up to 3 months, or both. Wa, serious mistake. The punishment is very harsh on riding/driving without insurance.

 

1. Get a good lawyer

2. Find your MP

3. Provide evidence you really can't lose your license or you lose your ricebowl (If you are the sole breadwinner of your family)

I do not understand why must go to bike mechanic to renew insurance and roadtax. Having all those classes of licence TS should already know that its an offence to do so but still decide to risk it. Do keep in mind calling the TP names in a PUBLIC forum is not even close to a smart move as we will never know who is reading. None of our 'advices' are helping however do keep in mind to think twice or even thrice by taking such a risk.

To me it seems like real bad luck.Riding for 2 yrs in sg till now never a tp has stopped me. I only see them on expressways with the speed camera or on normal lanes checking for overspeed or crossing bus lane.

 

You got stopped on a the very day your insurance expired, now how much more worse can your luck be. Just accept it as fate.

 

To others, just because tp has never stopped you don't think they don't exist it's like moore's law when you never make a mistake nobody stop you, then moment you make your 1st mistake you get caught.

Try appealing to TP after u received their letter, bring along your documents for them to see... It depends on the officer attending to u... It has 3 possible outcomes... Either a stern warning, or a fine, or a disqualification and a fine in court...

I still cant believe TP can just pick up on somebody riding bike normally. Was it a road block? Did you go under any ERP gantry? Did you show any signs of illegalness on your bike? Which bike you riding?

TP has the right to stop anyone despite what type of bike they are riding cause they are the law enforcer of the road. It is their duty to check particulars of riders and drivers. If we as rider maintain our bike in stock condition, renew your insurance, roadtax and etc earlier then we will not have any problems with them. As for TS, do try to appeal and explain your situation clearly to them.

eh only LTA or tiger squads stop people with heavy mods... TP dun usually do that.. they seriously dunno much about pipes and mods except tinted visor or colours headlights LED etc.. there was once i was stopped by a TP together with a fren riding RVF with yoshimura and me GSXR600 with arrow and fake silencer.. cant believe that staff sergeant yes he drives that rex and he accuse my fren yoshimura of no silencer and me with a fake one he didn say anythin even after shining his torch light in

lets hope he do.. cos i learnt mine, was charged to court fine 500 for speeding.. and now ridin kup slow and steady lol singapore traffic rules r solid no one can escape no matter is LTA or TP best is keep ur bike stock and ride safe and with the correct documents if not even if u escape law enforcers you might not be able to escape death.. there s a reason why certain rules are enforced

You can drive without insurance no problem. Just don't get caught by TP.

 

Even if accident case, if someone without insurance bang you, but TP not involved, nothing will happen to the guy, especially if he is a foreigner. Insurance company will repudiate liability and ask you to claim from the driver himself. Then you LLST chase the guy for money lor.

yes gd luk to those reckless driver/rider and those with heavy mods... LTA have been very fierce for the past few weeks everyday i ride to sch i sure c 1 or 2 camping by the road side or stopping ppl..once the was even a TP road blk in the afternoon...

Don't think the mp can help much regarding this case. School projects and all that don't think will help that much either cos like what someone pointed out, renewal notice is sent out in advance.

 

Just take it as a very expensive lesson and move on.
