Procedure on Selling and Buying number plate

Hi all,

Would like to inquire the procedure on buying/selling number plates, how are the procedures like.

What are the procedures to sell and buy? Need to go LTA? What the waiting duration?

No more going to LTA. Everything is online.

The procedure will depend on:

1) Bidding for NEW number plate of latest series from LTA?

2) Buying over an old plate from a seller?

If you can share more we will be better able to assist.

@BenJ,

LTA does not allow for "transfer of number plate to a new owner". But there are creative ways around this.

1) IF the current owner does not mind his motorcycle having an additional transfer count

- Transfer his bike to you (you will need to purchase insurance for the ownership transfer) (Cost S$25)

- You log into your SingPass to accept the bike and you become the owner

- You go to "Ownership services" under OneMotoring and "Retain a number plate" (Cost S$1,300)

- Transfer the motorcycle back to him (Cost S$25)

- Cancel the insurance and get your pro-rated refund

- Select your current bike under your OneMotoring dashboard to replace your retained number with

2) IF the owner don't want to transfer the bike to you, then you have to transfer the bike to him

- Transfer your bike to him (S$25) (need to purchase insurance)

- He retain the number in his portal (S$1,300)

- He replaces the bidded number on the bike you just transferred to him

- He transfers the bike with the newly replaced bidded number back to you (S$25) (use your existing insurance policy number)

- He cancels the insurance he purchased for the bike transfer to him for a pro-rated refund

3) IF his plate is not currently on any bike

Follow option 2) above

 

There are no documents to prepare other than purchase an insurance with the policy number for the temporary transfer of motorcycles which you can cancel after the transfer is done.
