So the new Monster 1200 is going to be out later this year in Singapore. I'm thinking of buying a second hand Monster and I'm hesitating between the 796 and the 1100 EVO.

Which bike do you think is likely to have the strongest resale value? I'm concerned that the resale value of the 1100 EVO will be badly impacted by the release of the Monster 1200...

What are your thoughts?

Ducati and resale value dont really go together heheh, and resale value is usually not a consideration when buying a Duc.

Anyway to answer your qns, between those 2 bikes, go for the 1100 evo. It will be the last of the 2V aircooled Monsters. The 1200 moves to liquid cooling.

You will probably find the 796 quite underpowered. In fact for all the air cooled bikes, go for min 1000 cc. Same for the older Hypermotards, also go for 1100. Anything less will feel underpowered after awhile.

Very god advice filtered. I test rode the 796 and the 1100EVO side by side. The 796 is so underpowered - boring bike. For a minute, I thought I was just too heavy for it... It has no torque compared to the 1100EVO.

Hi French Aussie,

As mentioned, 796 is/feels underpowered, not very exciting. Def get the 1100EVO.

I owned a 696 with carbon termi's and ECU upgrade, which i sold to go up to the 796, but after seeing the 1100EVO I changed my order and got the EVO. EVO is nice, and looks way better with its single side twin cannon exhaust. By the way I found the 1100EVO also a little boring, but after fitting the carbon termi's and ECU it was much better. Only prob is those carbon termi's were not legal, but sounded AWESOME.

Gaitsu: Liquid cooling allows the bike to make more power, but the downside is that the heat from the radiator will slowly roast you, if you are in slow moving traffic or stopped at the lights. The aircooled monsters were pleasant daily rides because they didnt throw hot air all over your legs.

Liquid cooled can make more power with smaller engine displacement. But also more things that can go wrong e.g. stone hits radiator and causes leak, water hose burst etc. Air cooled is pretty much idiot proof. The air cooled bikes do come with an oil cooler though.

Also in terms of servicing costs, the older 2V aircooled Desmo engines generally are easier and cheaper to service. Try not to get stuck in heavy traffic though, as the temperature does climb. On naked bikes, air cooled looks so much sexier, but that's my personal opinion

Having said that, I personally ride liquid cooled now hahah

I have to disagree on the heat issue. I'm riding the liquid cooled Hypermotard 821, dont feel much heat in slow traffic. In comparison I tried my friends air-cooled Hyper 1100S, and it felt much hotter.

I always thought Ducs hold their value well vs Jap bikes, the price bottoms out, Jap bikes keep dropping.

Nope. If u buy a brand new Duc and sell it within 2 yrs, usually ard 25-30% depreciation. Unless maybe its a limited edition model or discontinued model, then maybe can hold better value.

The plus side though is most used Ducs usually have very low mileage.

Jap bikes in general hold value better. Eg super 4

You can't use S4 as a yardstick. S4 is bread and butter of class 2A, DRZ as well. Class 2 has no bread and butter, its buy what you want and what you can afford.
