my vtec kick in @ .....

hi guys, just wonder what's is the cb400 spec 1 vtec kick in? I heard some said 6750 RPM. Just now I just went for a ride and discover mine is @ 7100 RPM then start vtec. Is it a good or bad thing? Btw my bike is cb400 vtec 7 years old liao. Any factor that cause the vtec start so late/ or @ higher RPM? Please help..!!

how sure are you the reading is 7100RPM??

 

it's normal to have readings a bit off.. travelling at 110kph with needle at 7k RPM without opening vtec..

when e needle reach 7000 RPM, i can feel e exhaust sound different. this is how i determine vtec open.

7k is ok mine also like tt bike shop say is some where there to open vtec anything bad dun think so ba for me i still think is ok because it save petrol bad think is pick up slower than other

ya, pick up i also feel slower. will changing new plug improve pick up as well as vtec open at normal RPM (6750) instead of 7000+?

Recently, my pick up speed is very slow and my idling also fall below very weak. must press starter at least 2 times then bike can start.

 

What service should i do to improve these 2 aspect? assuming i have already change EO, Coolent, oil and air filter, carb wash and tune. the only thing i did not change is spark plug.

there is a tick sound when vtec opens

obviously you cant hear it when riding but when revving at stationary it is audible.

No wonder..Sparkplug is also important,worn out plugs causes bad fuel consumption,lousy idling,hard starting and etc.Why?,as time goes by the sparkplug gap widens,the tip becomes dirty thus a bigger volt is needed to produce spark.

ur vtec will open @ 7k rpm no matter u change a new sparks plugs or wat

 

if changing of sparks plugs does help in opening vtec earlier, den i think i'll change to a jet plane sparks plug liao..mayb open vtec @ 3k Rpm? :cheeky:

I think it doesn't matter @ wat RPM the vtec opens....definitely got a little +/- here and there.

 

Our 10 fingers also don't have the same length...so why compare?

step to diy vtec indicator

parts required

1. 1 x LED

2. 1 x 220ohm resistor

3. thin wires either all red or all black or red n black

steps to doing it

1. led comes with one longer leg and one shorter leg

2. soulder the resistor to the longer leg, the other end of the resistor to the wire.

3. the shorter led leg also soulder one wire to it

4. u have have the basics to have some indication

5. next opens up your fuel tank by taking out the fuel line and the vaccum tube which are both on the right side. on the left is the fuel level indicator connector, disconnect it. use a size 12 to open the both at the seat. life up abt 45deg and pull back to take ur full tank out.

6. on the left hand side there is this grey connector that is toward the back of the main frame. that is the connector of the vtec.

7. take the wire with the resistor connect it together with the wiring and plug back the connector. then the shorter led wire connect it to any ground ie chassic find some screw and screw it together for best result.

8. you have done your vtec indicator.

9. to test clutch in and rev. the led shld light up.

my specsII all the while kick in around 6.3..... but duno y now suddenly kick in at 6.5..... means now i can travel slightly more then 100km/h b4 vtec activate...
