Hi,

I would like to know if it is possible for me to purchase a motor insurance policy under my name for the bike. However, I am not the legal owner of the bike. I have a personal written binding agreement with the owner that I will take full responsibility of the bike. Hence I am authorised by the owner to use and ride the bike.

My question is, although my friend is legally the owner of the bike, but can I buy insurance under my name ONLY? That is, I want to buy insurance coverage for the bike and 3rd party under MY name. I do not want to include my friend's name in the insurance as my friend will NOT be riding or using the bike at all.

I would like to purchase an insurance coverage under my name, and to add another sub-rider under the same insurance as me, totally leaving out the owner of the bike.

Is this possible? Will there be any implications should a claim arise?

or must the bike be covered under insurance that has the owner's name in it, no matter what? that is, insurance with owner's name + my name as sub-rider (but this is something that i do not want.)

Pls advice. Thank you!

Bro, Very simple.

The legal owner of the bike must be the insured (owner) of the insurance. So if he only allow you to use his motorcycle, you have to include your name into his policy as authorised rider.

Unless you buy the bike and intends to transfer the ownership to you, then you must get an insurance to cover you as insured (owner).

Make sure you are covered before using. I have come across ppls' licences kenna suspended cos no insurance covers him.

oh... the legal owner MUST be uh? gee.. shucks.. really?

i thought as long as insurance is bought to cover the bike, who owns the bike doesn't matter?

man...i dun want to put my friend's name as the policyholder...

erm... personal written agreement between us is not considered legal binding uh? so the written agreement doesn't hold even if it was stated in the agreement that i am the owner of the bike as far as the 2 of us is concerned?

normally how long would you get suspended for riding other ppl's bike? means the bike is not insured under your name... ?

Riding without insurance? Revocation of license.

I got my insurance -- with my name on it only -- before I did the transfer of ownership. Owner wasn't present, but his IC was needed, iirc.
