I would suggest that you don't buy from Boom Siew as they will charge you an arm and a leg for the set! See the list as per the manual. You can all these from Mustaffa except for the "Pin spanner" which is a "C spanner" used to adjust the rear shocks preload. Go back to your bike shop and pester them to give you one. You can also try to buy the C Spanner from FJT at Rowell Road or Ah Boy.

 

The Revo comes with a big box under the seat and will fit all your tools. Just get a bag (from bicycle shops) to put the in. I got some bags at $2 from Mustaffa. As I go touring quite often, my tools set is more than the standard tools listed. Some of it go under the seat and some go in my top-box.

gud day to all superfour owner... im from philippines.. i own a 2008 honda cb400 revo (naked)... i had a bad accident... i want to restore my bike... can someone help where can i buy a whole speedometer guage, hiss sensor and computer box(CDI OR ECU)... Sorry to hear about your accident. Don't they have a Honda main dealer in the Philippines? I'm just wondering if it would be cheaper for you to get it from them rather than shipping from Singapore. Anyway, you can ask your friend to contact the following spare parts shop for a quotation. They import genuine Honda parts and are generally cheaper than the official distributor's pricing.

Very good afternoon guys. Hows everyone been? Long time no post and never meet up...

 

I've recently encountered a problem in my REVO. This happened after I washed my bike. Not in JB but at my MSCP. Stone cold engine then only I started washing it.

 

The problem is, the fuel meter is showing only 5 bars when I full tank it. As and when It will go back to 6(which is full). But it also continues to fluctuate constantly. So I need to figure out what is the problem. What might need to be changed. Just FYI, When I first encountered the problem, I used it for about 100km. Then go pump full tank again. Problem persist.

 

What might be the issue? Cheap or expensive fix?

 

On some bikes, the fuel indicator is determined by a float in the fuel tank which is then connected to a sensor. Think of the tank for your toilet bowl. It has a ball which floats and is connected to the inlet pipe. So, when the water level is full, the ball lifts the pipe which then shuts the inlet pipe. When the water level is low, the ball is lowered and thus opens the valve so the tank can be filled with water again. Sometimes, the ball and rod may run out of alignment, thus distorting the fuel level reading.

 

I'm not sure about the system used on our Revo for the fuel indicator. In any case, if I were you, I wouldn't be too bothered with it. Just check with some bike shops for a quote. If it's a cheap fix, by all means fix it. Otherwise, just leave it as it is. I don't really rely on the fuel indicator very much anyway. Whenever I re-fill, I always fill a full tank. Then I reset the trip meter to zero. Depending on whether I ride in SG or on a long trip, I generally know when I need to refill based on the KM travelled.

 

Bros sori I'm new. Wanna ask wad is valve clearance?

 

I don't know how to explain what is valve clearance but it is something you do to your bike when you hit really high mileage like 100KM or 150KM.

 

Please see the maintenance schedule attached. Honda recommends that the valve clearances be inspected every 24,000km or every 2 years. I actually wanted to do my valve clearance service at about 65,000km but I was advised by some mechs that it is too soon. "Honda Super Four very good build quality" they said. :thumb:

 

Anyway, valve clearance inspection simply means to check the clearance level of the valves. All 4-stroke combustion engines have valves which are opened and closed usually by rocker arms. These valves are located near the top of the engine block. Early engines had 2 valves per piston, one for intake and one for exhaust. Then the smart engineers discovered that they can improve performance by increasing the number of valves. Thus engines began to have 4 valves per piston and some even 5 valves. Honda Revo has 4 valves per cylinder, thus a total of 16 valves.

 

These valves are opened and shut by the overhead camshafts. Engine manufacturers also use shims (metal plates) to regulate how much the valves need to move in order to open and shut the

Over time, wear and tear occurs where the camshaft lobe push the valve stem. Badly maintained engines may also result in the valves themselves needing to be cleaned of carbon deposits and/or replaced.

 

Thus, a "Valve Clearance Maintenance" job entails removing the top of the engine block to access the camshafts and valves. The clearance (or distance) between the top of the valve stem and camshaft lobe must be within a certain tolerance. For Revo, the valve clearance when cold should be:

Intake - 0.20mm

Exhaust - 0.27mm

 

Metal shims are used to adjust the clearance levels.

 

How much would the job cost? Check Unique's listings for an indication. Please do use this as a guide only because they include some things that may not be necessary for your bike. Bottom line is this is a major service and should be done by a mechanic whom you trust. It is an excellent opportunity for bad rep mechs to chop you!

The Revo has a 18L fuel tank (14 + 4 reserve). The max I have ridden the bike till "dry" is about 16.5-17 litres i.e with 1-1.5 litres in the tank. At this level when taking corners at a certain lean angle, the fuel pump would not be able to suck in petrol. Thus the bike would stall.

 

Petrol consumption depends on how you ride the bike. Basically, the higher the engine RPM, the less efficient it is. The consumption range for the Revo is 14-20km/L. I get about 13.7-14km/L when riding "flat out", typically at speeds of 165-185km/h. At speeds of 135-150km/h, the fuel consumption is approximately 17km/L. In Singapore only conditions, I get about 19km/L. This is because my rides in SG are typically short, start and stop journeys with only about 15% at highway speeds. If your typical journeys in SG include more highway journeys, I believe the consumption should be at least 20km/L.

 

Based on the above, 20km/L from 17 litres should get you about 340km before needing to re-fill. At high speeds, the range would be about 210-238km. Do note that these numbers are based on a mostly stock bike.

any idea hw to wash off those mud stain on revo with silver engine casing? tried to wash it off with soap during bike washing but the stain seems to be sticked onto the engine casing.

Its sort of like white liquid flowed down the engine case silver area n stagnant there.

Hi bros, wanna ask, is S4 super hot in Msia? Been wanting to go to JB for a pump cos SG petrol too exm but I've heard lots of horror stories about bikes getting stolen. Never been to JB/Tuas to pump before. My intention is just to pump and head back to SG, no stopping in between for food or anything. Isit safe to go in alone for pump? And JB or Tuas safer? Am riding a revo btw... Experienced bros please advise. Thanks!

It is. You will still see tons of SG Bikes there though. Class 2b/2a/2.

 

I have been going in from 1st link to pump for about a year or so. I only pump and then I u-turn. Though it is a short trip, risks still exist.

 

All you can do is to be humble, don't rev for fun, attempt to race with people or attract any attention.

Sorry, @static369 I’m not familiar with the fuel guage system used on the Revo. As mentioned, do check with your trusted mechanic.

 

I’m happy to note that you recognize the typical Singapore mentality of “spoil means change new one”. Keeping this in mind will stand you in good stead, whether with bikes or cars or other stuff we use so you won’t get conned unnecessarily.

 

Having said that, it’s not easy to go against the flow. For example, when the magnet coil on my bike failed, I had no choice but to fit a new one. It’s a shame because it was only a section of the copper wire that had burnt. The rest of the magnet coil assembly is still in good condition. If this had happened in KL, I would have sent the coil assembly to a specialist for him to re-coil with fresh, good quality copper wire at a fraction of the cost of buying a new coil assembly.

 

Whilst we know it can be repaired, we don’t have much of a choice simply because there isn’t anyone here who does the re-coil service. That magnet coil specialist in KL has been in business since the 70s. His son now runs the business.

 

I have in fact spoken to them about doing re-coil for Revo. I showed them my burnt coil and was told that it happened because most of these coils are now made in China, the world’s factory. They have noticed that the copper wires used are of the minimum quality standard and often fail because the wires can’t withstand the high operating temperatures. Thus a re-coiled magnet coil would last longer than a new OEM one at half the price!

Please use the figures I posted earlier as a guide only. Whilst fuel consumption figures and range (distance travelled on a full tank) should be fairly consistent for a specific model of bike do note that every rider’s riding habit is different for a particular stretch of road. This then affects the fuel consumption. I encourage everyone to keep a log of your own so you know your bike or car better. Keeping such a log will also hopefully give you advance warning of some problem with your bike e.g. petrol consumption increasing for no obvious reason.

 

Here is an example of the log I keep on my phone. I used to have a phone that has spreadsheet capability, thus can automatically calculate the km/L. I now have to calculate manually.

You can do this if you only ride your bike in Singapore. If you go touring, especially when riding in a group where fuel stops are pre-determined, this is not always possible. In any case, the fuel pump is manufactured to operate under conditions so that it is fine to ride till near empty before refilling. I personally think this fear of overheating the fuel pump is kiasi-ism at work. As I’ve mentioned before you can’t really ride the bike until the fuel tank is totally empty. In fact when in Singapore, I ALWAYS run the bike past reserve before heading to Johor for some good nasi lemak and cheaper petrol.

 

Singapore motorists are a pampered lot when it comes to petrol stations. Imagine living in Europe and you’re touring with the Revo or any other bike from say, London to Spain. Alternatively say you live in Sydney Australia and you decide to ride your Revo to Melbourne, some 895km away. On such journeys, many bikers do ride in the reserve zone till they can find the next fuel stop. If this really does cause the pump to overheat, you would be sure to hear of complaints from these bikers overseas.

I use Muc-Off for most of the typically areas such as the engine, radiator, under tray, brake calipers and wheels. You can get this at Motoworld. Just spray on, agitate with a paintbrush. Let it soak in for a short while and rinse off with water.

Definitely safe for me. I just started riding again in 2009 and since then I have always been going in to JB or Gelang Patah for petrol. Every time I go in, I'd go at about 8pm (after 10.30pm if via Woodlands), enjoy a good dinner/supper and re-fuel before heading back. As @lycan mentioned, just be humble and don't attract unnecessary attention and you'll be fine. By the way, what we hold true in our mind, we attract to ourselves. It's the universal Law of attraction. So if you think it is safe and be confident, you will be ok. :)

I like to ask, what is the riding experience between a Spec 3 and a Revo? How does a Revo handles different from Spec 3?

Revo engine is hotter, aftermarket parts are a little bit lesser than specs 3....

However, engine is smoother for Revo, Pick up technically is faster *(stock compare stock) engine smaller size....

Insurance same as all S4. FC is determined by rider not bike. too many factors involve. some F6 have better FC than Revo, however some Revo also may have better FC than F6... it is the rider and the maintenance...

As I’ve mentioned before you can’t really ride the bike until the fuel tank is totally empty. In fact when in Singapore, I ALWAYS run the bike past reserve before heading to Johor for some good nasi lemak and cheaper petrol.

 

On such journeys, many bikers do ride in the reserve zone till they can find the next fuel stop. If this really does cause the pump to overheat, you would be sure to hear of complaints from these bikers overseas.

Not everyone can afford to pay a lump sum for bike damages, we can prevent it from happening by maintaining our bike well.

So much petrol stations around in SG and within reach of msia petrol, it's just a matter of when and where the rider wanna re-fuel.

 

Since u mentioned about touring, many factors need to be considered; touring speed, distance before the need for re-fueling for any specify bike which requires more re-fueling intervals. Such requests can be made for a well organized group.

 

Overseas; AUS/Europe etc, their climate is totally different from our tropical climate. Humidity & altitude & air pressure are also factors to be considered.

Our Atmosphere is much more humid & more moisture when compared to their cool/dry environment.

This solves the overheating debate. Geography students will understand it better. For others who still don't understand, the internet has the answer.

mfg yr, tyre pressure, petrol, what kind of eo/spark plug/air filter using & how long havn't change.

Just to share among you guys since I ride an S4 as well. Saw this bike yesterday when I was in JB. Pity this unknown S4 owner who had his Showa shocks ripped off. Becareful guys. :)
